Very similar to the Yocaher Drop Down Longboard, the Atom Drop Deck Longboard simply has a shorter board and slightly less drop. From end to end, the deck is 39 inches and constructed out of full maple laminate. Atom Longboards is known for making quality longboards for beginners so we at Review Longboards decided to test this board out and see if it lives up to the company image.
|Atom Micro Drop Longboard 39 inch||(9.4 / 10)|
The Atom Drop Deck Longboard comes decorated with a stylish yet simple Atom logo which lends an air of grace and makes the board look great. From end to end, the board measures 39 inches. If you feel this board is a little short for you, Atom also makes this exact same longboard with a 41-inch deck.
Another benefit of the drop down deck is that the wheel cutouts mean that you will never experience wheel bite no matter how sharp the turn. Combined with the components of this board, the Atom Micro Longboard functions perfectly as a stable board which is ideal for carving or sliding.
For trucks, this board comes stock with 50-degree Reverse Kingpin aluminum trucks with 180 mm hangers. These are designed to be used over all terrain giving the board more riding capability.
The Atom Drop Deck also comes with special Atom Area 51 wheels with 78A hardness and Abec 9 bearings which are pre-lubricated. As an added bonus, the board already has grip tape applied to it making it easier to have a secure foothold on the board.
Riding the Atom Drop Deck Longboard
Taking this board on the road, the crew at Review Longboards aimed to test the Atom Drop Deck Longboard’s full capabilities. The drop down deck combined with the grip tape gave the riders secure footholds which allowed them to push the board further than most boards.
It’s worth noting, however, that this deck was constructed to be solid and as such, there is almost no flex while riding. This makes the board more stable if you want to go fast down hills but also makes the deck feel stiff.
The drop down deck on the Atom Drop Deck Longboard also gives this board excellent carving ability. After loosening the wheel nuts slightly, riders were able to force tight S-turns all the way down hills with no problems in control or loss of traction.
When attempting to slide, this longboard also performed excellently. The wheels provide just enough traction to allow for tight turns but if riders drop their body weight and attempt sliding, the wheels easily give way leading to a great slide.
Who should buy the Atom Drop Down Longboard?
With high-quality components and a drop deck, the Atom Drop Deck Longboard performs great at carving, sliding, and going downhill. The grip tape and the dropped deck provide perfect footholds for riders who want full control of their board. The lack of flex means that this board will be stable enough for any rider from beginner to intermediate to instantly pick it up and start carving down hills.
