The Quest Tribes Pin Kicktail is made out of a 7 ply hardwood maple deck which gives the board a stiff feeling. In a way this is an advantage because it allows riders to easily control the board underneath their feet.
The Quest Tribes comes with 7 inch aluminum trucks and 70 x 51mm 80A polyurethane wheels. As some reviewers have previously noted, these wheels are softer than traditional wheels which allows them to absorb more vibration when riding over rough surfaces. In contrast, this means that the wheels will wear out quicker than others.
For bearings, this longboard uses Abec 5 bearings with 4 mm risers. While perfectly good for beginner and intermediate riders, if you want to ride this board long term Review Longboards would suggest replacing the Abec 5 Bearings with Red Bones Bearings. These bearings are slightly higher quality than Abec 5 bearings and guarantee smooth rides for years.
With a stiff deck and a pintail shape, the Quest Tribes pin kicktail naturally excels at carving. It glides down hills and sidewalks and riders can effortlessly transition from one carve to the next.
Wheel bite is virtually non-existent due to the placement of the wheel wells in the deck. This makes the Quest Tribes pin kicktail able to make very tight turns.
The stiff deck also makes this board perfect for commuting. Riders were able to support their entire weight on the deck without it bending leading to them able to make longer trips than usual.
Overall, the Quest Tribes Pin Kicktail board was simply fun to ride. With steep hills, riders were able to push this board to the limits carving from side to side the entire time. This board glides smoothly across pavement and it shows in riders’ satisfaction with their board.
Review Longboards would definitely recommend this as the perfect beginners board. With the small addition of new bearings, this board becomes a carving machine suitable for any rider.
