In our previous post about the best backpacks for your longboard, we went over the top choices that can carry around all of your stuff and hold your longboard securely too. Recently, however, I got the chance to talk to the CEO of a company called The Longboard Sling and thought that this piece would go perfectly with our discussion on longboarding backpacks.
What is the Longboard Sling?
The Longboard Sling attaches to the trucks of your longboard and makes it very easy to carry your longboard comfortably. To ensure a tight fit between the rope and the truck and prevent the longboard from shifting excessively, the sling uses a stainless steel ring.
The sling itself is made out of a durable nylon rope which is abrasive resistance. Not sure what that runs? It’s simply a way of saying that the rope is highly durable and will last for years with minimal wear and tear.
The longboard sling also comes with a comfort pad to spread out the weight of the board across your chest and shoulders. This also helps prevent the rope from pressing into your body excessively which can quickly become uncomfortable.
Longboard Sling vs Longboard Backpacks
if you are wondering which one is ideal for your situation, this is the section for you. We go over all of the advantages and disadvantages of the longboard sling as compared to regular longboard backpacks.
Want to buy one? Head over to the Longboard Sling Website to place your order today! I spoke to the owner personally for this post and he assured me that he will be taking orders for the Christmas season.
It’s light weight and small size makes it great for skating sessions
Have you ever skated a parking garage top to bottom? They were one of my favorite places to skate in school. But I always hated having to carry my board make up to the top to do it all over again.
The longboard sling is so small that you can simply bundle it up while you ride and then use it to carry the board back up. In situations where you’re going to be bombing hills and walking back up them all day, the longboard sling could be you.
It’s cheaper and more convenient than traditional backpacks
The longboard sling costs less than a typical skateboard backpack like the best-selling, Dakine Mission Backpack, would cost. And if you are like me, you did not even realize you needed a longboard backpack until you got far to into skating for your good.
I, of course, bought a regular backpack for school before realizing I needed a skateboarding backpack and my parents were not happy with the double purchase. One advantage of the longboard sling is that it can be used in conjunction with your regular backpack. If you already have a school backpack and can’t justify another one, this sling could be your answer.
You won’t be able to carry your books with you if only using the sling
Now, this is kind of obvious just from the pictures of the longboard sling but the major disadvantage of this invention is that you can’t carry all of your stuff with you when you longboard. The sling is designed to carry only one thing: your longboard.
Longboard backpacks, on the other hand, can do both. Most of the major brands have adjustable straps which are used to strap your longboard to the back of the backpack and then there are multiple compartments where you can carry anything.
Going to class? Take all of your notebooks and your computer so you don’t get bored. Expecting a long sliding session on your longboard? Take multiple sets of wheels and see if you can wear them all down in one day. For sheer capacity, the backpacks for longboard are clearly in the lead.
