Starting in 2014 on the popular crowdfunding site, Kickstarter, Boosted Boards has enjoyed phenomenal success with their series of boards. They currently offer 3 electric skateboards with only minor differences between them: the Boosted Dual+, the Boosted Dual, and the Boosted Single.

Model Highlight

Rider Profile

Boosted Board Single Portable The best option for riders where portability and range are paramount. A beautiful lightweight design.
Boosted Board Dual Handling Urban commuters and recreational riders will love the handling of the twin motor design.
Boosted Board Dual+ Power It’s the board for those with a need for speed and who only want the best.

The Boosted Dual+ is the most powerful electric skateboard Boosted offers with 2000W motors. This translates to a top speed of 22 mph and the capability to climb 25% grade hills. The power and cost decreases from there to the Boosted Dual which has 1500W, a top speed of 20 mph, and can climb 20% hills. The Boosted Single is the cheapest because it only has one motor but the top speed is also the lowest of all the boards.

For this review, Review Longboards decided to examine the Boosted Dual 1500W electric skateboard as it has a mid-range cost and showcases the trademark Boosted Design.

The Board

The Boosted Dual 1500W electric skateboard has a 38 inch Loaded Vanguard deck made out of bamboo. Boosted is one of the only electric skateboard manufacturers that uses an already existing longboard deck on their board and it makes a difference. With a little bit of flex, the Boosted Board felt more like a longboard than any other electric skateboard we’ve reviewed.

The Boosted Dual electric skateboard can function entirely like a longboard too with superb carving and even sliding. The bonus is that once you glide down the hill, you can go ride again going straight uphill without the need to painstakingly push all the way back up. The video below demonstrates these capabilities.

In fact, all of the components that make up the board are high quality. There are Caliber trucks which are designed to make carving a breeze and bright orange Orangutan wheels. Put together, the board only weighs 15 lbs and looks sleek with the battery pack barely able to be seen.

The battery pack itself is made out of lithium iron phosphate and are automotive grade. What this means to the customer is that you can expect these batteries to last a lifetime.

Don’t expect to be waiting for these batteries to charge either. It only takes 1 hour to charge the Boosted batteries completely which is much faster than comparable electric skateboards. In fact, often you can get away with a charge time of only 30 minutes which results in 85% battery.

A close up of the dual motors attached to the wheels of the Boosted Board

On the Boosted Dual 1500W, the battery charges two motors which are attached the rear wheels. While the Yuneec E-GO electric skateboard only has one motor, the addition of the second motor on the Boosted Board means that this electric skateboard has a much higher top speed.

The top speed of the Boosted Dual board is 20 mph which is one of the fastest at the price range. This takes away from the range, though. The Yuneec E-GO can go up to 13 miles on a single charge, the Boosted Board can only go 7 miles.

To supplement this range, the Boosted Board comes with regenerative braking that will charge up the battery as you brake more. What this means is that the Boosted Boards can often go further than 7 miles.

One quirk involved with using the regenerative braking is that the battery must be run down a little before activating the brakes. This simply means that you have to ride around on flat or uphill roads for 5 minutes before using the braking feature.

To further increase the range of the board, one nice feature is that riders can simply kick push the Boosted Dual 1500W board after the battery dies. While the motors do provide some rolling resistance, the board is easily still ridable without power.

To control the board, Boosted Boards designed a custom remote to fit in the palm of your hand. A thumbwheel is used to accelerate or brake while a LED display eliminates range anxiety by constantly displaying how much range is left on the board.

A strong Bluetooth connection between the remote and the Boosted board ensure that the rider has constant control using the controller. To aid in the use of the controller, Boosted themselves have a tutorial section of their website.

One advantage that the Boosted Dual 1500W electric skateboard have are its different modes which are similar to the Marbel electric skateboards. Each mode is designed for riders as their skill in riding the Boosted Board increases.

Below shows the modes for the Boosted Dual board. On the Boosted Dual+ board, there is an additional mode called Pro which increases the top speed to 22 mph and can handle >25% grade hills.

Mode Acceleration Level Top Speed Hill Capability
Beginner Limited 11 mph No hills
Eco Moderate 16 mph Small hills
Expert high 20 mph >20% grade hills

Of all the electric skateboard makers, Boosted Boards is the only one to offer customization options. Riders can customize their very own Boosted Dual 1500W skateboard via laser engraving. With a limit of 50 characters, this can be the perfect way to ensure that your board stands out.

Customers ordering today can expect the board to ship within 1 week and for the board to be at your doorstep within 2 weeks. If you have Amazon Prime however, the Boosted Dual 1500W can be at your board in only 2 days! This does not allow for custom laser engraving work to be done, though.

All aspects combined, the Boosted 1500W Electric Skateboard felt like electric skateboarding done right. It is made with high-quality components, has a low charging time, and more importantly, feels like a regular longboard.
